Abstract:

This article aims to examine the effect of economic growth on the environment in the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC) and to verify in parallel the validity of the hypothesis of the environmental curve of Kuznets (CEK). To do this, we use an Autoregressive Scaled Lag (ARDL) model on annual data over the period 1990- 2019. Econometric estimates show that in the short term, inflation has a negative impact on the environment. In the long term, the environment is affected by gross domestic product per capita, inflation and foreign direct investment. Furthermore, these estimates confirm the validity of the environmental Kuznets curve. They also show different effects depending on the country.
