This study examines the impact of unemployment on child labour practice in Oyo State, Nigeria. The study uses primary data. The data were collected using interviews, and questionnaires were analyzed using a multinomial logit model. Findings revealed that Poverty, low household income, and high unemployment rates influence the increase in child labour in Oyo state, Nigeria. The study concludes that families facing economic hardship often rely on their children to contribute to household income, leading to children engaging in various forms of work at the expense of their education and well-being. As a result, the study suggests that the government should implement targeted economic empowerment initiatives focusing on poverty alleviation, especially in marginalized communities. These programs could include skills training, microfinance opportunities, and entrepreneurship support for parents to enhance household income.
