César Mario Díaz-Estela, Jhonn Derek Atao-Carrasco, Wilson David Calderón-Gonzales. "Lean Logistics-Based Warehouse Management Model to Reduce Non-Conforming Orders in a Metal-Mechanic SME: A Case Study in Peru" International Research Journal of Economics and Management Studies, Vol. 4, No. 4, pp. 173-186, 2025.
This study addressed the operational inefficiencies in warehouse management within a metal-mechanic SME in Lima, Peru. The investigation identified a significant gap in the literature regarding the application of integrated Lean Logistics models in small and medium-sized enterprises. The objective was to design and implement a warehouse management model based on Lean Logistics tools, specifically the 5S methodology, ABC classification, and layout redesign, to reduce the rate of non-conforming orders and improve internal logistics processes. A methodological approach was applied, beginning with the diagnosis of critical inefficiencies, followed by the development and validation of the proposed model over a four-month period. The results showed a reduction in non-conforming orders from 62% to 12% and an improvement in warehouse space utilization from 42% to 82%. The findings confirmed the model’s effectiveness in optimizing inventory management and logistics performance. These results provide theoretical contributions and practical implications for SMEs seeking operational efficiency through Lean methodologies.
