"Proposing Digital Transformation As Business Strategy for Non-Profit Organisations: Case Study of FGMI (Forum Geosaintis Muda Indonesia)" International Research Journal of Economics and Management Studies, Vol. 4, No. 7, pp. 107-117, 2025.
The digital environment is growing very rapidly, and the line between the adoption of digital by Non-Profit Organisations (NPOs) and their consideration of digital strategies at least (if not implementation) has become thinner, yet, unlike the private sector, many NPOs are confronted by issues of resources, capacity, and infrastructure, among others. This research examines digital transformation as more than a technology choice but an organiser and strategy for these youth-based, volunteer-run NPOs. This study examined in accession by using FGMI (Forum Geosaintis Muda Indonesia) as a case study, and the method used was a mixed method comprising FGD, an interview with key persons, internal documents observation, benchmarking interview, and a written structured questionnaire on readiness in digital. Results: The main operational inefficiencies, haphazard documentation systems, and weak digital infrastructure were identified at FGMI. However, the group also exhibits digital capability and impetus among its members. Comparisons with similar groups of organisations indicate that FGMI is poised to be a leading player in industry-led digital innovation in the Indonesian geoscience youth market. The work presents a strategic digital transformation strategy that encompasses the stages of assessment, planning, implementation, and institutionalisation, and is based on a change management framework for a volunteer-based organisation. The system of intervention emphasises leadership ownership, capacity development, and constant monitoring as success criteria. Theoretical implications for DCT within NPOs, as well as the implications of these theoretical developments on NPO practice within structurally similar and resource-dependent environments, are provided. By adopting an end-to-end digital transformation strategy, FGMI will enhance its sustainability, transparency, and institutional performance.
