This paper aims to examine the impact of the circular economy on the Sustainable Development Goals in the context of Japanese and Malaysian economies. Additionally, it also makes a comparative analysis in terms of the circular economy’s implications on the Sustainable Development Goals in Japan and Malaysia. The empirical outcome reveals that municipal waste recycling negatively impacts the accessibility of drinking water in Japan, while it leads to positive impacts on drinking water accessibility in Malaysia. Moreover, the investigation shows that recycling does not exhibit a significant impact on sanitation accessibility in Japan, while it positively impacts that in Malaysia. These findings underline that recycling contributes meaningfully to advancing sustainability outcomes more in Malaysia than in Japan, where the effects appear weaker or negative.
